2007 Fiesta Jazz Festival
This year,
KRTU has teamed up with St. Mary's Unviersity to
host a weekend-long jazz festival, with recordings
made of each band, and broadcast throughout San
Antonio on 91.7 FM. |

Growing Jazz hosts school band festival
and records entire event for on-air broadcast
Growing Jazz in San Antonio operates on several
levels. At the most basic level it serves
to introduce students to jazz music who may have
no previous exposure to this art form
whatsoever. On a more intricate level,
Growing Jazz encourages those students who are
already familiar with jazz to continue their
studies and become the local and national jazz
musicians of the future.
Toward that end, the annual Growing Jazz
Showcase is an opportunity for area middle and
high school bands to perform in a festival
setting and also get their music recorded with
professional audio equipment. Not only do
participating bands receive recorded material to
share with parents and other faculty, quality
perfomances from the Showcase are broadcast
city-wide on KRTU 91.7 FM as part of a special
feature on young musicians. |
